Program: Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology
Faculty Advisor: Lefteris Michailidis, PhD

Samuel received his B.S in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Appalachian State University with a minor in Biochemistry. He then worked as a research technician at UNC Chapel Hill’s Marsico Lung Institute for three years before joining the Biochemistry, Cell, and Developmental Biology (BCDB) graduate program at Emory University in 2023. His research in the Michailidis lab focuses on characterizing the role of pro-inflammatory signaling during HIV/hepatitis B virus coinfection, utilizing high-throughput arrayed knockout screening techniques in combination with mouse-passaged primary human hepatocytes to better simulate the liver environment and study infection dynamics following IL-1β treatment.
