Dear Residents and Fellows,
Reported cases of COVID-19 in the United States are rapidly increasing. Emory University School of Medicine is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our faculty, staff and trainees and thus we believe that essential faculty and trainees must be ready for the care of patients in the hospitals and clinics where they work.
Our Healthcare systems have strategies in place to care for suspected and diagnosed cases of COVID-19. To prepare our residents to safely care for suspected and diagnosed cases, we will implement required training in the screening of patients and the use of PPE. All residents should review the NETEC video on the proper use of PPE. Hands-on training has already begun for residents in the Emergency Departments and will continue with other residents as necessary.
Please note that Emory medical students will not participate in the direct care of patients suspected of or diagnosed with COVID-19 or patients on any form of airborne isolation precautions. Students may continue to participate in the care of patients on contact isolation.
We will continue to update you as we gain additional information but in the meantime, please practice careful hand hygiene and stay home if you have a febrile illnesses.
