Advocacy Award

This award has been established by the Emory SOM Recognitions Committee to recognize a faculty member’s significant contribution in science, health care, or education advocacy. Advocacy is the purposeful use of knowledge, voice, and action to influence policies, practices, and resource allocation in science, health care, and education in order to advance evidence based decision making, equity, access, and the well being of individuals and communities.

Nomination Process

Nominations will be accepted through July 9, 2026

Eligibility

All faculty with a primary appointment in the SOM. Eligible nominees have exhibited extraordinary efforts in advocacy at the local, regional, and/or national level.

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Promoting the integrity, use, funding, and societal value of science, or ensuring that scientific evidence informs policy and public discourse.
  • Promoting patients’ rights, improving health outcomes, enhancing health equity, or shaping health care systems and policies
  • Influencing educational policies, practices, and resources in order to promote equitable access, quality learning, or positive outcomes for all learners.

Nominations

Faculty must be nominated by a faculty, staff, or a trainee of Emory University. The nomination should consist of a concise nomination letter (500 words or less) describing the nominee’s advocacy and the impact these actions have had.

Submission

Use the online Award Nomination Form and include the following:

  • CV in Emory SOM format
  • Nominating letter (500 words or less)
  • Optional materials: One additional letter of support (500 words or less)

Decision

Will be made by the School of Medicine Recognitions Committee and approved by the Dean. The faculty member should be in good standing within their respective Department.

Award

The recipient of the School of Medicine Advocacy Award will be honored during the annual Celebration of Faculty Eminence.
