Message from the Office of the SOM Dean

May 3, 2023

Dear colleagues,

Last semester, Emory began a campaign to have all our researchers’ Open Researcher and Contributor IDs (ORCID) linked to Emory University. As a reminder, ORCID is a global not-for-profit organization that offers researchers a unique digital persistent identifier (DPI) that accurately connects you to your scholarly work throughout your career. Getting and using a free ORCID iD can help researchers save time and get credit for their work in funding, publishing and research reporting workflows. Funding organizations, including the NIH, require ORCID iDs or similar identifiers to apply for and receive federal funds.

Establishing and linking your ORCID iD to Emory is required for NIH submissions. To prevent receiving extra emails on this topic, please complete these steps, which take only a few minutes, ASAP!

Take Action Now

  • First, navigate to https://orcid.emory.edu to 1) establish an ORCID iD if you have not, and 2) link your new or existing ORCID iD to Emory.
  • Next, link your ORCID iD to Emory FIRST and your web profile by following these instructions.
  • Finally, while in Emory FIRST, take a moment to set your publications to automatic claiming so that we may have an accurate record of the many outstanding publications produced by SOM faculty. View instructions to set automatic claiming.
