Message from the Office of the SOM Dean

May 24, 2023

Dear colleagues,

As another academic year comes to a close, I want to take the opportunity to recognize all of our School of Medicine faculty who educate, mentor, sponsor, support and encourage our diverse group of learners all year long.

Our esteemed faculty educators in both the undergraduate and graduate programs have demonstrated remarkable adaptability over the past several years. You have made it your priority to provide our learners with exceptional teaching, from the classroom to the bedside, a hallmark of our institution’s reputation; you have gone above and beyond by mentoring students in scholarly pursuits; exemplified compassion and dedication to eminence and fostered the well-being of our learners.

This year, the SOM Recognitions Committee received upwards of 175 nominations for Educator Appreciation Day. Each selected honoree is a faculty educator who exemplifies our shared values.

Reading through the list of this year’s honorees, I am genuinely inspired by the innovative teaching methods many of you have pioneered, from developing simulation models that correspond with curriculum to revamping resident and fellowship evaluations which were then adopted at the national scale, introducing new technologies to our clinical sites and operating rooms and even doing a second fellowship to demonstrate life-long learning to your students.

Take a moment to review the list of faculty members recognized during this year’s Educator Appreciation Day. Congratulations to this exceptional group of educators!

And to all our faculty engaged in education, I extend my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of our learners, our patients and our community.
