Message from the Office of the SOM Dean

March 31, 2023

Dear colleagues and friends:

Many thanks to those of you who have submitted feedback through the COACHE faculty satisfaction survey. As of Monday, the School of Medicine has a 35.6% participation rate—the second lowest rate among all schools at Emory. As you can see in the chart below, several schools have greater than 50% participation. We can do better!

Chart of COACHE participation rates at Emory.

The COACHE survey includes questions on a wide range of topics that contribute to faculty job satisfaction including research and scholarship, service, diversity, tenure and promotion, teaching and mentoring and more. Your responses are entirely confidential. Responses are used to benchmark our institution against national peers and find opportunities for improvements at the university and school levels.

Improvements from the 2020 COACHE survey results include the new parental leave policy, more transparent compensation practices, university action to improve shared research services and expanded education around promotions.

Your personalized COACHE survey link was sent to you on Feb. 17, 2023, from coachefaculty@abtassoc.com. If you cannot find your link, email coache@gse.harvard.edu.

I strongly urge you to take an active role in shaping the future of our school.

Thank you for all you do.

Carlos
