Dear colleagues,

Today, the School of Medicine celebrates Researcher Appreciation Day and recognizes the incredible contributions of our research community and the vital role you play in advancing science. Your work applies knowledge in the service of humanity, driving meaningful change with lasting impact.

I am inspired by your creativity and innovative spirit. We continue to strengthen our research enterprise and support faculty, staff, and students through ongoing advocacy and new initiatives. Your efforts have yielded incredible results. For FY26, we secured nearly $697 million in research funding, a powerful illustration of the determination, excellence, and impact of our research community.

Your work continues to demonstrate the far-reaching impact of Emory research. This year, Emory researchers continued to make significant breakthroughs, including understanding how deep brain stimulation can strengthen the brain’s response to reward and anxiety, how the release of infectious virus varies from person to person, and evidence that AI-assessed mammograms may signal cardiovascular risk in women.

No matter where our teams go, they thrive. Whether that means launching a new cellular therapy initiative or joining an AI Task Force to pursue a collective vision for the future, these extraordinary achievements underscore the breadth and importance of Emory research.

Today, we honor faculty members nominated by their peers for groundbreaking research and innovation. Their accomplishments reflect the excellence of our entire research community.
