Actin Cytoskeleton Regulators Interact with the Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome Complex BLOC-1 and its Cargo Phosphatidylinositol-4-kinase Type II Alpha

I study how proteins are segregated and sorted to very specific locations within a cell. We focus on neurons, where proteins are synthesized in a cell body that can be as much as 1 meter from where they are needed for function at the synapse. My work examines how these proteins are packaged into small vesicle carriers within the cell body and what mechanisms generate the force required to release those vesicles to the synapse.
