Senior Mentor Program at Emory

The Senior Mentor program is a curricular enhancement that  matches first-year medical, nursing, physical therapy, and physician assistant students with community-dwelling adults 65 and over. It is a year long interdisciplinary  and experiential learning opportunity that allows students to gain knowledge of “aging” from the experts, the seniors themselves. This unique program focuses on aspects of aging that are difficult to teach in a traditional classroom: health system, psychosocial aspects of health care,  and communication skills. Additionally, our students interact with other health care students (MD, PT, NP) to augment their interprofessional training and knowledge of the healthcare team.
