Wounded Warrior All Amputee Softball Team trip to Washington DC

I have had the great fortune of volunteering with the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team as their Trainer/PA. The team was formed in March of 2011 when the guys came to University of Arizona in Tucson to try out for this one of a kind team. The WWAST was formed by David Van Sleet who worked in the VA Prosthetics Department for 30 years. He wanted to give the guys he saw coming home badly injured from war , a chance to be "normal" and play a sport again. The team travels at least once a month to different cities around the country to play fire and police departments, and who ever else challenges us to a game! The team has been embraced by America and they are  treated like heroes no matter where we go!  The Washington Nationals MLB Team has adopted the team as their amputee farm team!

The motto of the team is "Life without limb is limitless". They play softball to raise awareness of the sacrifices and resilience of wounded military, and to highlight their attitude that you can rise above any challenge ahead of you. Seeing these guys play their hearts out and rise above their injuries, physical and mental, is one of the most inspiring things you will witness.
