PA Faculty Jodie L. Guest, PhD, MPH Promoted To Professor

JodieDr. Guest has been promoted to Professor and joins Rollins School of Public Health and Emory School of Medicine full time this fall.  For the past 16 years, she was the Director of HIV Research at the Atlanta VA Medical Center where she was the co-founder of the HIV Atlanta VA Cohort Study (HAVACS).  She has taught at Rollins and SOM since 1999 and has won the Golden Apple for Excellence in Teaching in the SOM and the Crystal Apple for excellence in graduate teaching. She is the Director of the PA/MPH dual degree program, the new track director for the executive MPH Applied Epidemiology Program and the newest PRISM investigator.

 Dr. Guest has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers, has presented at 77 national or international conferences, sits on six journal editorial boards, and has been the investigator on more than 50 HIV-related research projects.  She has served on dissertation committees for three doctoral students, as mentor for 20 medical or PharmD resident research projects, and chair for 35 MPH thesis committees.  She is also on the steering committee for ART-CC, an international cohort collaboration of HIV researchers.   

 Jodie received both her doctorate and MPH from Emory University and her undergraduate degree from Baylor University.  When introducing her as newly promoted faculty, Dean Curran said, “We know she is good – we taught her and are thrilled to have her full time on campus!”  

Her community work includes serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools Atlanta.  She is the Founder and Executive Director of Teen Corp, a medical and philanthropy organization created to bring experiential learning to youth leaders.  She is a team captain and the Media Ambassador for the Susan G. Koman for the Cure 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk and has raised more than $550,000 in 15 walks.  She is a logistics director for the last third of the Iditarod race in Alaska.  She is a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2011 and Leadership Georgia class of 2014.
