April-May Events and News

Join us for the PA 5K Heel to Heal Run on Saturday April 21, 2018!  Every year, Emory PA's program hosts a Heel to Heal 5k run to raise money for 3 charities that provide medical services to the underserved in Atlanta and South Georgia. The Good Samaritan Health Clinic and HEAL Clinic serve patients here in Atlanta while the South Georgia Farmworker Project provides medical care for migrant farmworkers in the Bainbridge, GA area. Our students and faculty are actively involved in providing medical services through these charities. The money we raise for them directly translates into how much care can be offered to patients. More information about the charities can be found at https://www.h2h5k.com/charities-we-support.html.

This year's race will be held on Saturday, April 21st. Our theme is "Perfect Pairings", and we encourage all participants to dress up as their favorite duos, trios, and more. There will be food, music, and family activities. This is a great way to have fun and support these wonderful organizations. See you at AAPA in New Orleans!   Make plans to attend the Emory Alumni Gathering at AAPA Conference in New Orleans on Sunday May 20, 2018 from 6–8pm in the Camp Ballroom at the Hilton Riverside Hotel (Convention HQ). You will have a chance to catch up with classmates and faculty and meet current students and this year’s medical challenge bowl team.  See y’all there!

Art for a Cause: April 28th The Emory School of Medicine's annual Art Gala will be held on April 28th, 2018 from 7-11pm at the William’s Medical Education Building on Emory campus. Art for a Cause proceeds help sponsor our student-run medical clinics and projects.  This is a collaboration between the physician assistant students and the medical students to raise funds to support our volunteer efforts to offer free healthcare for those who otherwise cannot afford it.   Our volunteering includes; the Georgia Farmworker Project, where students provide medical aid to South Georgia migrant workers, and the Good Samaritan Clinic, an Atlanta-based non-profit medical clinic. In order to continue providing charitable healthcare, 100% of the proceeds from the Art Gala and silent auction go directly towards these services.

If you are interested in attending this event please visit https://emorypaartgala2018.eventbrite.com. Cost is $18 if you purchase prior to the gala. Tickets will also be available at the door for $20, however this money will go towards the medical student’s fundraising efforts and not the PA program.

We hope you will be able to attend the event on April 28 and look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions or have any art to donate please do not hesitate to reach out.
