Marquitha Mayfield, M.Ed., PA-C completed her training as a Physician Assistant at the Emory University School of Medicine PA Program, receiving a Bachelor of  Medical Science Degree in the 4th graduating class.  After graduation, she joined the staff of the Department of Internal Medicine at Emory Clinic where she worked  in Clinical Research assisting in the completion of clinical trials of investigational

drugs.  Over the following 30+ years as a practicing PA, she has held a variety of clinical and administrative positions.  These have included serving as Director of Family Planning and OB-GYN Clinic Director at an urban community based clinic, a Surgical Assistant in Ophthalmology and in Vascular Surgery and as a Family Practice PA.  Additionally, she has worked in the field of Academic Medicine, first joining the faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine in 1980 as Clinical Instructor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine where she assisted in faculty research and provided patient care in the Family Medicine clinic.  She also served as Director of the Community Health Unit which provided community based health education and screening programs.  While at Morehouse, she was also appointed to the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine where she served as Academic Coordinator for their clinical medicine courses and also taught 2nd year medical students interview & physical exam skills.  In addition to these responsibilities, she pursued graduate study in the field of Education receiving a Master of Education degree at Georgia State University in 1986.  In 1991, she joined the faculty at the Emory PA Program as Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator where she still continues to teach.  As a PA program faculty member, she is responsible for curriculum design, implementation and evaluation of the first didactic year.  Additionally, she teaches in several clinical courses, coordinates basic science and clinical medicine courses and also manages the PA mentor program providing students with early inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences.
