Mission of the School of Medicine Office of Information Technology Services (ITS)
The Emory University School of Medicine's Office of Information Technology Services mission is to enhance the application and use of information technology for teaching, research, scholarship and learning consistent with the strategic plans of the School of Medicine; to provide leadership to the faculty, physicians, scientists, students, and staff in their use of information technology; to support administrative business applications and processes; to design, develop, and help to select and implement information systems in support of central academic, administrative and research departments; to actively support members of the School and University in the use of information technology in ongoing and future work; to create and maintain interrelationships between the School and other institutional organizations using IT and who are providers of IT related services; to garner an organization providing development, professional growth and personal fulfillment for its staff; and to assist the School to effectively plan for the use of current and future technologies. This mission will be accomplished through the delivery of efficient and collaborative support and services fostered by the development of innovative and proactive information technology expertise.
Statement of Purpose and Primary Objectives
Establish an Office of Information Technology
Services (ITS).
Oversee operations and manage information
technology resources at the medical school. Develop organizational
structure, resources, policy and standards to better serve and
meet the technology needs of academic departments, units and
offices.
Work collaboratively with academic departments
to ensure superior and consistent technology support services
by deploying service models that take advantage of centralized
management and cost efficiencies while maintaining departmental
focus, uniqueness and service levels.
Establish an ITS Advisory committee and work
with Medical School departments to develop and deploy resources
for improving school networking infrastructure, e-mail systems,
server management and web development and hosting.
Provide oversight and direction to departmental
IS personnel where needed and desirable.
Provide guidance, expertise and strategic
planning to the Office of Medical Education to improve student
computing.
Provide computing resources and expertise
to faculty in developing computerized and multimedia educational
programs.
Work with the Office of Research to enhance
research information systems, space planning databases and implementation
of electronic research initiatives.
Work with remote/non-Emory locations to provide
connectivity to Emory University.
Establish cooperative and collaborative relationships
with Emory University Academic and Administrative IT (Emory-AAIT)
and Healthcare Information Services Division (EHC-IS).
