Long Description: Coronary heart disease in women is one of Dr. Wenger’s major clinical and research interests. She chaired the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Conference on Cardiovascular Health and Disease in Women. Dr. Wenger has expertise in cardiac rehabilitation. The Early Ambulation Program after Myocardial Infarction at Grady Memorial Hospital, begun in the early 1960s, was the initial inpatient rehabilitation program in the nation; ambulatory exercise rehabilitation has been a continuing feature of cardiac care at Grady Memorial Hospital since the early 1960s. She served as President of the Scientific Council on the Rehabilitation of Cardiac Patients of the World Heart Federation (formerly International Society and Federation of Cardiology). She chaired the World Health Organization Expert Committee on Rehabilitation after Cardiovascular Disease, and co-chaired the Guideline Panel on Cardiac Rehabilitation for the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research. Dr. Wenger has had a longstanding interest in Geriatric Cardiology, and is a Past President of the Society of Geriatric Cardiology, and Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Geriatric Cardiology.
