Jr Faculty Development Course

The School of Medicine is pleased to again offer a five-month career development course designed especially for junior faculty. Featuring a diverse faculty selected from throughout the School of Medicine, School of Public Health and Goizueta Business School, this course will present information necessary for success in an academic medical center using a variety of formats including didactic presentations, panel discussions, group and individual exercises, and case-based problem solving. Because space is limited in this course, we encourage early nominations. See below for a detailed course curriculum. Download the nomination form (PDF).

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

All instructors and assistant professors in the School of Medicine.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

The course encompasses ten sessions to be held twice monthly from January 17 to May 23, 2013. Sessions will meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 PM (with the exception of January 17, which will meet until 9:30 PM) and will include dinner.

The majority of sessions will be held in the School of Medicine building. This course is approved for 31 hours of CME credit. Faculty accepted into the program are expected to attend all sessions.

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROGRAM?

There is a $400 charge per registrant due prior to the beginning of the course. This may be paid by the individual or department but a smartkey must be provided for funds transfer.

HOW TO APPLY:

Nominations can be made directly by applicants or by departmental chairs. In either case, the enclosed application form should be filled out and must include a brief statement from the candidate as to how the course will assist him/her in his/her career. There is no limit to the number of nominations from a department, but final selections will made to ensure representation from many departments and will be limited to 35-40 individuals. The deadline to submit the application and CV is November 2, 2012. Please email the application materials electronically to Susan Raven at sraven@emory.edu.
