What is MedPrep@Emory

MedPrep@Emory is an eight-week residential program open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying to medical school. MedPrep@Emory is designed to enhance skills and increase the competitiveness of students underrepresented in medicine and in medical school admissions.

Eligibility

  • Applicants with expressed interest in health professions, specifically medicine
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
  • At least one of the following
    • American Indian or Alaskan Native
    • Black/African-American
    • Hispanic/Latino
    • Economically disadvantaged
  • One of the following classifications
    • Matriculating students, with at least two years of undergraduate science or pre-med coursework (including Organic Chemistry)
    • Recent science or pre-med graduate
    • Matriculating unclassified graduate student in science pre-health profession education
    • Minimum science and cumuliative GPA of 2.7 on 4.0 scale

Note, preference will be given to applicants from underserved and rural areas in the State of Georgia, including U.S. military veterans

Program Overview

Throughout the summer, students will receive comprehensive Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) predation, opportunities to interact with health care providers during weekly seminars, formal mentoring, and service learning projects. The seminars are designed to enhance students’ strengths and provide preparation for the medical school admissions process. Seminar topics include:

  • writing personal statements
  • time management
  • academic preparation
  • wellness
  • mock interviews

Application Requirements

  • Complete online application and include:
    • Personal Statement on the topic, Describe what makes you a qualified candidate for MedPrep@Emory. Highlight your professional and academic experiences that deem you a strong applicant who seeks to enter medical school.
    • Resume/Curriculum Vitae
    • Copy of Financial Aid Award, if eligibility is based on economic disadvantage
  • Upon completion of the application, send the items below to: Office of Multicultural Medical Student Affairs, Emory University School of Medicine, 100 Woodruff Circle, Suite 375, Atlanta, GA 30322
    • Official Transcripts from all colleges attended
    • Three letters of recommendation (at least two from college professors)
