I am studying a viral protein that has been shown to inhibit apoptosis in CMV infected cells and which is critical for infection of macrophages. My current project is to evaluate the potential use of engineered lamprey VLR antibodies as diagnostic and therapeutic agents in a mouse leukemia model. Embryonic stem cells represent a promising cell source for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications, as in the use of bone forming cells to repair bone defects, and further investigation of their directed differentiation will not only enhance our ability to derive cells for such applications but also provide a window into the early stages of bone development and formation.
