How to Apply

TRANSFER STUDENTS

In order to be considered for transfer to Emory University School of Medicine, you must be currently enrolled as a second-year student in good standing at a medical school in the United States that is accredited by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) and has similar curriculum. Emory will only accept transfer application requests from students seeking transfer to begin the third year of medical school.

To request a transfer application, please submit a letter of request, including the following information:

  • Name of the medical school in which you are currently enrolled
  • Your undergraduate and post-baccalaureate GPA
  • Your MCAT scores, by subtest (and the month/year the test(s)
  • Your interest in Emory
  • A compelling reason for seeking a transfer

Your letter must be received between February 1 and April 1 in order to be considered for application to the fall of that same year. Please mail your letter to:

Medical School Admissions Office
TRANSFER PROGRAM
Emory University School of Medicine
1440 Clifton Road NE, Suite 115
Atlanta , GA 30322

The Admissions Committee will review all letters received by April 1 and will determine to whom they will send a transfer application. Not all requestors will receive an application. Completed applications must be returned with a processing fee and photograph by the designated deadline on the application (the deadline is usually in May). Decisions will be made the first week in June, and those selected to interview will be invited to do so in early June. Candidates must take Step 1 of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination by mid June. Acceptance to the third year class will be granted pending successful completion of Step 1.

The number of transfer students we can accept depends on the number of openings we have available. The main criteria we look at include: a) a compelling need for transfer (spouse works in Atlanta , ill relative in the area, etc.); b) the strength of the academic record; and, c) the letter of recommendation from the applicant’s Dean of Students Affairs.
