A graduate of Wellesley College, Dr. Weiss received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (AOA). Following an internship and residency in pathology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, she accepted an appointment there as assistant professor. Dr. Weiss is a surgical pathologist who specializes in the diagnosis and prognosis of soft tissue tumors. She acquired specialty expertise in this area during a 13 year tenure at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology eventually becoming Chair of the Department of Soft Tissue Pathology. During this period she and her co-author, Dr. Franz Enzinger published the now classic textbook, Soft Tissue Tumors now in its 6th edition. She has held a series of administrative positions over the years including Director of Anatomic Pathology (University of Michigan), Vice Chair and Interim Chair of Pathology (Emory), Associate Dean for Faculty Development and currently Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. She has held numerous leadership positions and received several honors nationally and internationally including President of the United States-Canadian Academy of Pathology, President of the International Society of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, Trustee of the American Board of Pathology, A. James Professor of Diagnostic Pathology, Chair of the WHO Committee for the Classification of Soft Tissue Tumors, and member of the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors.
In her present position she oversees faculty appointments and promotions and interacts with faculty on a variety of academic issues.
