Dr. Brownfield graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles with a BS in Biology. She attended the Chicago Medical School in 1996 and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1999. She joined the Division of General Internal Medicine at Emory in 1999 as a clinician educator. Since 1999, Dr. Brownfield has been actively involved in the medical school and housestaff programs. She served as the Co-Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship from 2000-2006, before she became the Director in 2006. She is also the director of the CNN Medicine and the Media elective. Dr. Brownfield was an inaugural class member of the Woodruff Leadership Academy of Emory University in 2003. She is married to a gastroenterologist in private practice and has 2 children, Eli and Skylar.
