The primary missions of the School of Medicine are to provide outstanding educational programs to medical and graduate students and trainees; to provide the highest standard of clinical care for patients; and to conduct innovative research and integrate this knowledge into the practice of medicine. The School of Medicine is committed to ensuring that faculty, staff, students, and trainees strive for the highest degree of ethical and professional standards in carrying out these missions.
Industry has a long history of collaborations with academic faculty that have benefited individual and public health through the development of new drugs, devices, equipment, computer technology, therapies, and services. The School of Medicine supports principled relationships with industry that enhance the School’s missions and are beneficial to the public. The Office of Industry Relations in the School of Medicine works closely with the University’s Research Conflict of Interest Office, the Development Office, Emory Healthcare’s Office of Compliance, and other University and Healthcare units to protect the integrity of research, the objectivity of education, and the quality of patient care.
Faculty, staff, students, and trainees may have the opportunity to engage in personal external relationships with industry that are related to their professional duties at Emory. The Office of Industry Relations works with these individuals in the School of Medicine to enhance the beneficial outcomes of these relationships while ensuring adherence to Emory policies and minimizing or eliminating the appearance of undue influence by industry on mission-related roles and responsibilities.
The Office of Industry Relations is located on the fourth floor of the Williams School of Medicine Building.
